The Cambridge Peace Commission is celebrating its 25th anniversary in 2007. One of a very few municipal entities of its kind in the U.S., its unique presence in city government marks Cambridge as a city that values an engaged, informed and concerned citizenry. In honor of the Commission's 25th Anniversary, the Cambridge City Council passed a resolution declaring "Cambridge as a city of peace" and encouraging all of Cambridge to reach for peacemaking.

The Commission works extensively on peace education, violence prevention, relating global peace issues to local issues, building consensus, building bridges, serving as a resource to local peace groups, and recognizing the peace work of many Cambridge residents.

In June we held a city-wide celebration at Cambridge City Hall that brought together people of all ages and offered music, dance, discussion, food, and sharing of many kinds. Peacemaking is carried on by so many members of the community, including the following groups that participated:
